The evening of 24 May 2007 saw the launch of The °Climate Group’s new publication, In the Black: The Growth of the Low Carbon Economy. The reception was kindly hosted at the London headquarters of Barclays Bank plc, now a member of The °Climate Group, and the report sponsor.
The event was attended by over 100 representatives of the companies active in developing the myriad of low carbon products and services described in the report. These are the real solutions already enabling the world to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while generating revenues, jobs and shareholder value.
Speakers were Andrew Flett, Barclays’ Global Head of Environmental Management, and Mark Kenber, The °Climate Group’s Policy Director . Both emphasised the wins for companies (and governments) who are able to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the drive towards a low carbon economy.
Mark Kenber stated that “The low carbon economy is an attractive and exciting place full of opportunity - the growth potential is enormous. The key point demonstrated by the report is that low carbon solutions are good for both jobs and investment returns.”
Barclays itself has been the largest banking player in the EU trading scheme.
