Johnson Controls joined U.S. EPA Climate Leaders in 2003 to set aggressive targets to reduce its carbon footprint. Accordingly, it set a public goal to reduce the greenhouse emissions in its U.S. operations by 30% per dollar revenue from 2002 to 2012.  It also adopted the same goal for its global operations and met the goal four years early in 2008.

More Information

Brief description of Johnson Controls
Johnson Controls is a global leader in energy efficient solutions for buildings, hybrid technology and automotive interiors.  The company was founded in 1885 by Professor Warren Johnson, the inventor of the electric room thermostat.  Johnson Controls' 140,000 employees are guided through the company's vision, values and objectives to create a more comfortable, safe and sustainable world.

The company’s core businesses focus on activities that result in greenhouse gas reductions, whether that be energy efficiency building retrofits, on-site renewable energy, efficient building equipment, Li-ion batteries for plug-in hybrid vehicles, or lightweight vehicle interior components.  In its North American performance contracting business, it has delivered, measured and verified building energy savings translating to over 13 million tons of avoided greenhouse gas emissions since 2000.
