Notes on Emissions

The calculated total amount of CO2e emissions from electricity, gas and business travel was 5,053 tonnes. Direct CO2 emissions were measured for electricity, gas and business air travel from over 94% of Man Group’s global employee base, then extrapolated to include the total number of staff.

Scope 1 & 2 CO2 emissions per employee continue to reduce year-on-year from 3,567 kg to 1,205 kg during FY2006-08.

The reported GHG intensity reduction note above is linked to the use of a 'green' tariff electricity supply at the London headquarters and the introduction during the year of this tariff at other London sites. However, although signing up to a green tariff is to be commended, the reductions attributed to this may not be 'additional' in nature – this depends on the nature of the tariff and whether it represents the installation of physical generation assets, or purely falls within the regulatory obligations of the supplier.
