In 2006 Nike achieved the final elimination of sulfur hexafluoride, a gas with an extremely high global warming impact, from all of their running shoes. The elimination of SF6 alone represents a reduction of more than 80% in GHG emissions since 1997.

Climate Change Strategy Details

Nike has set ambitious targets to further reduce their emissions, including achieving climate neutrality among the facilities and business travel of Nike brand by FY11 and of Nike, Inc. by FY15, and achieving 30% absolute reduction in their 2003 inbound logistics footprint by FY20.  Strategies include onsite renewable energy, efficiency measures, a focus on inbound and outbound logistics, their contract manufacturing footprint and REC purchases.
