Swiss Re has been a carbon neutral company since October 2003. More on Swiss Re
Swiss Re is a major global reinsurer committed to taking a leading role in the climate debate. They are focused on sustainable and profitable growth, on the efficient use of capital and on close and mutually rewarding client relationships. There are organized around three core business functions to deliver this - Client Markets, Products and Asset Management.
Swiss Re identified climate change as an emerging risk twenty years ago, and since then it has remained an important component of the company's long-term risk management strategy. Swiss Re is focused on the following key areas:
- advancing our knowledge and understanding of climate change risks, quantifying and integrating them into our risk management and underwriting frameworks where relevant;
- developing products and services to mitigate - or adapt to - climate risk;
- raising awareness about climate change risks through risk dialogue with clients, employees and the public, and advocacy of a worldwide policy framework for climate change;
- tackling our own carbon footprint and ensuring transparent, annual emissions reporting.
They regularly produce research publications such as their recent Economics of Climate Adaptation report to help their stakeholders understand the risks and opportunities posed by climate change.
Swiss Re has also adopted the Climate Principles and is working with The Climate Group and other leading financial institutions to implement the commitments outlined in the principles.
