Actually, the Plugged-In Places programme is fully funded and steaming ahead

I came across Independent's story 'Coalition scraps national network of charging points for electric cars' last week. It is always amusing when a paper gets it completely wrong. I don’t think it is hard to write the story in the Indy, but they got it completely wrong and who will pick them up on it? So I support the words of the Transport Secretary in his recent letter to the Independent, which was promptly emailed to me. 

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond's letter references the Indy article that was in the paper last Saturday, and his response reiterates earlier statements from him that it is simply not true that claims that the Plugged-In Places programme to install recharging infrastructure in eight pilot areas have been scrapped.

He goes on to say that 'The programme is fully funded and is going ahead in all eight areas as planned', and tells us that we should 'Be in no doubt - the Government remains fully committed to stimulating the necessary infrastructure to support plug-in vehicles'. 

As I have said in earlier blogs, on the whole, this strategy seems to be moving us forward to a place where electric vehicle infrastructure is both economically viable and useful to electric vehicle owners.
