“Finance and disruptive technology ‐ creating a low carbon future” - dinner and discussion

Edward Hoare and The Climate Group hosted a dinner around the topic of “Finance and disruptive technology - creating a low carbon future”. The event was held at C Hoare & Co. Bank, London, which is one of the world’s oldest privately owned banks.
This informal event brought together a diverse group, including members of the philanthropic, financial, disruptive technology, government and NGO communities. Discussions covered the role of innovation and how this can be encouraged, the expansion of clean and disruptive technologies and how this can be accelerated, and the related policy and financing issues, amongst other topics.
Edward Hoare and Mark Kenber, Deputy CEO of The Climate Group, introduced the evening, and speakers included:
- Diogo Vasconcelos of Cisco, who was involved in the formation of the EU's innovation finance policy and Cisco's Connected Urban Development programme. Diogo spoke about fostering and expanding innovation, how this can be achieved, and how it will impact economic prosperity.
- Molly Webb who leads The Climate Group’s Smart ICT work and co-authored the SMART 2020: Enabling the low carbon economy in the information age report. Molly spoke about how disruptive innovators are tackling climate change with new business models, providing new options for policy and for the financing of solutions to climate change.
