Between 20-26 September, on the sidelines of the United Nations’ General Assembly meeting, The Climate Group will host Climate Week NY˚C 2010 in New York City, a global forum to mobilize an international public-private response to climate change.
As hundreds of government and business leaders from around the world converge upon New York City to discuss Millennium Development Goals, many of these leaders will take part in Climate Week NY˚C to explore how progressive policy and finance mechanisms can unlock a clean industrial revolution necessary to generate sustainable low carbon development, boost energy security, create jobs and end global poverty.
Less than seventy days before the United Nations’ climate summit in Cancun – New York City will once again be the epicenter of the climate action dialogue: Climate Week NY˚C will bring together The United Nations, The City of New York, the UN Foundation, The Carbon Disclosure Project and an array of international business, government and non-profit organizations to create a series of roundtables and activities on climate action and the innovative public-private partnerships required to unleash a prosperous, clean revolution.

Below are some of the confirmed events.
20 September, 2010: Climate Week NY˚C Opening Ceremony
For the second straight year, global business leaders and policymakers representing some of the world’s most influential companies, cities, states, regions and nations will convene at the Climate Week NY°C Opening Ceremony. This year, these leaders will discuss how – with innovative policy and finance mechanisms – we can unlock the huge potential of a low carbon future.
A high-profile, hour-long media event, the Climate Week NY°C Opening Ceremony will demonstrate to an audience of 300+ business and government leaders, thought-leaders and international media that not only is the Clean Revolution possible – it’s already underway.
20 September, 2010: Risk & Resiliency - Risk Transfer & Adaptation in Developing Economies
The first event following the launch of Climate Week NY˚C 2010 will focus on climate adaptation, with Swiss Re and The Climate Group hosting this important discussion. This event will feature a high-level panel discussion led by leaders from the policy, business and international organization arenas. Specifically, panelists will consider fundamental questions relating to climate adaptation and the way forward.
20 September, 2010: EV20 Roundtable
This electric vehicle roundtable will follow on from the announcement of the EV20 Coalition and its founding members at the Opening Ceremony. Discussions will include whether the targets set by the EV20 are ambitious enough, as well as exploring how to create and support national and state policy frameworks in support of market transformation.
21 September, 2010: Financing Smart Cities, States and Regions - Policies to Stimulate the Growth of Emerging Technologies
Smart policies that stimulate private finance are crucial to enable the rapid scale-up of clean technologies. Some cities, states and regions have already created policies that support the growth of low carbon technologies, create jobs and provide a profit through private financing.
On the second day of Climate Week NY°C, The Climate Group will host a high-level discussion, where government and business leaders will share success stories and help others to develop and implement policies that will have the same impact in their own regions. Participants will also explore opportunities for new and innovative finance measures that can accelerate public stimulus packages and ‘fast start funding’ as well as private sector finance for clean technology.
21 September, 2010: Crossing the Commercialization Valley of Death: Financing Clean Energy Technologies
Clean energy technologies have made substantial progress over the past decade, as they have been positioned to address such issues as climate change, energy diversification and, for many nations, energy independence. Leading-edge technologies such as concentrated solar power (CSP), electric vehicles (EVs), and smart grids are proliferating more rapidly than ever before. However, critical financing gaps remain before these technologies can be adopted in a truly widespread and meaningful way.
This event will highlight the experience of clean energy companies that have successfully traversed the “valley of death,” and seek to identify a series of policy and financing solutions needed to unlock a greater level of private sector investment into clean energy technologies. Panelists will include senior executives from the energy industry and the financial community.
