This Week’s Emissions: New South Wales
The Greenhouse Indicator provides accurate and real time information on greenhouse gases produced each week in New South Wales from energy use.
The weekly Indicator accounts for around 90% of NSW's total energy emissions and 65% of the State's total greenhouse gas emissions. Remaining emissions come from agriculture, land use, waste, industrial processes and fugitive emissions from coal mining.
Greenhouse gas emissions in NSW not included by the Indicator are estimated to be on average 1.1 million tonnes per week.
Please note: The availability of new data means that we are
now able to include emissions figures for gas used in cooking and
heating, both domestically and industrially. The new data has been
added to the emissions figures for gas used in electricity
generation, which were already included.
Figures for 2009 have been updated retrospectively so that we are still able to make meaningful year on year comparisons. We hope to update the 2007 and 2008 data shortly.
We have now also updated the equivalent weekly emissions levels for 1990 and 2000 so that comparisons with these years are still accurate.
