Climate Week NYC

From 19-26 September 2011 – less than 70 days before the United Nations’ climate summit in Durban and in the critical run-up to Rio +20 – New York City will once again become the epicenter of the Clean Revolution.

Climate Week NYC is an annual summit boasting high-level meetings between the world’s leading businesses and governments and an exciting array of public-facing events, all focused on driving a 'clean industrial revolution'.

A Clean Revolution is a swift and massive scaling-up of clean technologies which will help create jobs and economic growth, securing a better, smarter and more prosperous future for all.

In just two years, Climate Week NYC has become a key moment on the international climate change calendar. Now in its third year, Climate Week NYC brings together The Climate Group, Carbon Disclosure Project, China Center, PlaNYC, the United Nations Global Impact, the UN Foundation, The City of New York, The New York Academy of Sciences, TckTckTck and an array of international business, government, non-profit and thought-leaders to call for urgent action against climate change.

We’re excited to report that this year’s agenda is really taking shape, so keep an eye on the Events page of our Climate Week NYC website for updates on the latest activities and events, as soon as they’re confirmed.

From the high-profile Climate Week NYC Opening Ceremony to our ever-growing list of diverse affiliate events, we’ll all play a pivotal role in driving the Clean Revolution.

Agenda for September 19, 2011

10:00am - 11:30am - Climate Week NYC Opening Ceremony

Climate Week NYC’s Opening Ceremony will be an international media event during which world leaders will call upon government and business to join with them to deliver transformational climate action. Audience members will include CEOs, policy makers and thought leaders. The Opening Ceremony will run for 90 minutes. This is an invitation only event.

11:45am - 1:45pm - Powering the Clean Energy Revolution: A Business and Government Leaders Dialogue

Following the Opening Ceremony of Climate Week NYC, The Climate Group in partnership with the Global CCS Institute will host a high-level dialogue of senior leaders from government, energy providers and financial institutions. The theme of the discussion will be: What do climate change leaders need to do to promote Carbon Capture and Storage and the importance of its role in the climate change solution? This is an invitation only event.

11:45am - 1:15pm - Rethinking Resiliency: Innovative Solutions for Climate Adaptation

Making communities more resilient to climate change impacts will require innovative solutions from both the public and private sector.  For businesses, climate impacts represent both risks, like supply chain disruptions, and opportunities, like new financial instruments that insure against climate-related disasters and new technologies that improve agricultural productivity and resiliency.

This event held in partnership with Swiss Re will explore the question:  How can businesses and governments work together to implement innovative solutions for climate adaptation?

Successful case studies and emerging opportunities from around the world will be discussed.  Panellists will include senior business executives and government leaders. This is an invitation only event.

6:30pm - 8:30pm Climate Week NYC Cocktail Reception

To celebrate the opening of Climate Week NYC, a cocktail reception will be held bringing together senior business, government and community leaders. This is an invitation only event.
