EV20 London Electric Fleet Roundtable

EV20 is a new Climate Group initiative to speed the global deployment of plug-in electric vehicles. Chaired by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, EV20 is building a core group of 20 EV leaders – businesses and governments committed to transforming the market for electric vehicles by 2020 – and a wider network of like-minded partners.

The current working group includes Renault, TNT, Venturi, Ener1, Quebec, Amsterdam, North Rhine Westphalia, South Australia and London. Over the next three years, the EV20 group will focus on activities designed to speed up market transformation by 2020, with a particular focus on vehicle fleets, financial mechanisms and government policies.

We believe that commercial fleets have a critical role to play in accelerating the plug-in EV market, and that deployment of EVs can return commercial and brand benefit to early fleet adopters. As a first step, we are convening this roundtable of some of our members and London’s major fleet owners to explore the viability of a London electric fleet coalition. The proposed coalition would seek to deliver visible EVs on the road in London by the 2012 Olympics, and order 100,000 additional EVs UK-wide by the end of 2013. It would seek to replicate and learn from elements of similar coalitions established in The Netherlands and France.
