Live Twitter Q&A with Tom Burke, Founding Director, E3G and Mark Kenber, CEO, The Climate Group

On May 1, 2012, The Climate Group will launch the first in a new series of live Q&As on Twitter, with a session featuring climate experts Tom Burke, Founding Director, E3G and Mark Kenber, CEO, The Climate Group, discussing what we need between now and 2020 for a Clean Revolution

This discussion couldn't come at a more crucial moment in time. With the world’s middle class expected to grow from less than 2 billion to 5 billion in the next 20 years, we need a revolution in the way we produce and consume energy.

We need a Clean Revolution: a swift and massive scaling-up of clean energy technologies and infrastructure. A change in design and behavior to improve efficiency and use of our natural resources. A process that will create jobs, boost economic growth, and secure a better, more prosperous future for all.

Discussing how we can achieve a Clean Revolution will be Mark Kenber, who has worked on climate change for fifteen years and is an expert on international climate policy. Before becoming CEO of The Climate Group, Mark was the organization's Deputy CEO and International Policy Director, and has directed ground-breaking projects with the international finance, energy, technology and aviation sectors as well as co-founded the Verified Carbon Standard, now the most popular kitemark for the $400 million voluntary market.

Joining Mark will be Tom Burke, the Founding Director of E3G. Tom is also currently an Environmental Policy Adviser to Rio Tinto plc, a Senior Business Advisor to the Foreign Secretary’s Special Representative on Climate Change, and writes a regular political column in ENDS magazine. He has also recently been appointed to the External Review Committee of Shell and the Sustainable Sourcing Advisory Board of Unilever.

The live discussion between Tom and Mark will take place between 10-11am GMT on Tuesday May 1, 2012, as part of our new Twitter Q&A series which will run throughout May and June, to build momentum on topics that will be the focus at Rio+20 Earth Summit in June, 2012.

On the day, our two experts will introduce the topic of the Clean Revolution and share their views on what is needed to achieve it. You will then be invited to direct your questions to Tom, Mark, or both of them – so start planning your questions now.

To take part, all you need to do is log-in to Twitter and head to @ClimateGroup at 10am GMT on May 1. Watch the conversation evolve then tweet your on-topic question. To make sure that they don’t miss it, be sure to include the hashtag #CleanRevolution in your tweet.

During the session, re-tweet the questions and answers to maximize exposure of the discussion. After all, with less than ten weeks to go until Rio+20, we need the rest of the world's leading businesses and governments to pay attention now.

After the session ends, you will find a summary highlighting the key points from the debate here on TheClimateGroup.org. We will be announcing the rest of our high-level business and government leader guests in our Twitter Q&A series very soon.

If you, your company, or sub-national government would like to be featured as a future guest to help put the Clean Revolution into action, tweet us at The @ClimateGroup now.
