Our activities at COP19 in Warsaw, including States and Regions Meeting

Next week at COP19 we will be hosting and involved in several high level events in Warsaw, Poland, led by our States and Regions Alliance meeting on November 20. 

Tuesday, November 19

As part of our activities around COP 19, The Climate Group will be involved in a number of panels within UN Global Compact’s Caring for Climate Business Forum on November 19-20, 2013.

10:15 – 11:30am: Advancing Energy Efficiency: Promoting energy efficiency, renewable and technology solutions

Our CEO Mark Kenber will moderate this UNFCCC-led Panel which will look at the technologies and policies needed for building a sustainable energy system

11:45am – 1pm: Guide for Responsible Corporate Engagement in Climate Policy

This UN Global Compact-led session will present a new report jointly developed by UN Global Compact, WWF, Ceres and The Climate Group to help companies engage in climate policy.

2:15 – 3.30pm: Unlocking the Value in Low Carbon Innovation as part of the Caring for Climate Business Forum 

This event will feature presentations from within our corporate and government membership including Paul Wheelhouse, Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Government of Scotland and Dr Josep Enric Llebot, Secretary of State for Environment, Sustainability, Government of Catalonia,  Harry Verhaar, Philips, Daniel Müller, Siemens and Michael Mazor, Dow, to discuss the potential of low carbon innovation from the perspective of both business and governments, and the framework conditions required to help it thrive.

On November 20, our CEO Mark Kenber will also be participating in the high-level meeting concluding the Caring for Climate Business Forum.

 

Wednesday, November 20

8:00am – 12:30pm: States & Regions Alliance Members Meetings (Private, invite-only events)

We will be hosting a breakfast meeting where senior political representatives of States and Regions member governments are invited to join Mark Kenber, CEO of The Climate Group and Libby Ferguson, States and Regions Director, The Climate Group, for an intimate discussion on the future strategic developments for the States and Regions Alliance in the lead up to COP21 in Paris in 2015. We will then host a special private briefing session with a special guest speaker, followed by our States and Regions Members meeting . All representatives from the States and Regions Alliance member governments are invited to participate in the private briefing session and members meeting. 

 

Thursday, November 21

4:45 – 6:15pm: Implementing Climate Actions on the basis of Territorial Cooperation

This is a joint side event with The Climate Group, nrg4SD and CMCC). It will feature presentations from within our membership including: Bruno Covas, Secretary of State for Environment, Sao Paulo Government; Alun Davies, Minister for Natural Resources and Food, Government of Wales; Yves-François Blanchet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Wildlife and Parks, Government of Quebec; and Michael McCormick, Appointee of California’s Governor Jerry Brown, State of California.
