Record number of events confirmed for Climate Week NYC 2011

NEW YORK: On Monday September 19, Climate Week NYC 2011 will officially launch with The Climate Group hosted Opening Ceremony, which will be followed by a week-long calendar of a record number of exciting climate focused events, many of which we will be reporting and tweeting live from.

Climate Week NYC is an annual summit boasting high-level meetings between the world’s leading businesses and governments and a diverse array of public-facing events, all set on driving a Clean Revolution.

This year Climate Week NYC can boast more events than ever before, with over 50 innovative climate-concentrated events confirmed. Here is a hand-picked list of some of those unmissable events. Monday, September 19

10 – 11:30am The Climate Week NYC Opening Ceremony will see high-profile world government and business leaders call for The Climate Group to lead the Clean Revolution, in front of an international audience of media and influential leaders.

11:45 – 1:15pm Rethinking Resiliency: Innovative Solutions for Climate Adaptation is a dialogue co-hosted between The Climate Group and Swiss Re, which will explore the question:  How can businesses and governments work together to implement innovative solutions for climate adaptation.

11:45 – 1:15pm Powering the Clean Revolution: A Business and Government Leaders Dialogue is hosted by The Climate Group in partnership with the Global CCS Institute, and will encourage discussion around the importance of CCS in tackling climate change, and how high-level leaders can promote it. 

1 – 5pm Social Good Summit will see Mashable, 92Y and the UN Foundation provide a four-day arena for global leaders to discuss the power of innovative thinking and technology to solve climate change.

1 – 7pm  The half-day conference, Global Lessons in Green Building: How NYC Stacks Up compares and contrasts New York City’s efforts to green the built environment with other cities around the globe.

1:15 – 3:30pm Low Carbon Opportunities in China is a lunch panel which will bring leaders from China and the US together to share ideas on achieving both economic development and reduced emissions.

5 – 7pm  Senior executives and policy makers will unveil the 2011 Carbon Disclosure and Carbon Performance Leadership Indices, highlighting trends and leaders, at the CDP S&P 500 Cocktail Reception.

6:30  - 8:30pm The Climate Week NYC Cocktail Reception will celebrate the opening of Climate Week NYC, by bringing together senior business, government, NGO and thought-leaders at this exclusive event.

Tuesday, September 20

9am – 6pm Business Climate 2011 is a business conference held for senior executives focused on corporate strategy around the crucial issues of sustainability and climate change. 

9:30am – 3:35pm  Innovations in Energy Efficiency Finance is convened by Citi and Environmental Defense Fund, with a group of practitioners on energy efficiency finance and developing the market.

12 – 2:30pm  Hosted by UN Secretary-General Bank Ki-moon, the Private Sector Forum presents Sustainable Energy for All, where the strategy’s commitments, efforts and goals will be discussed.

6 – 8pm Sustainability Practice Network: Adapting to Climate Change will offer a panel of experts to review the current state of climate change research in NYC and other cities.

6 – 8pm  The Sallan Foundation and the New York City Accelerator for a Clean Renewable Economy Market Makers panel will explore New York City’s emerging clean tech industry.

6 – 8pm Plug-in Cities: What EV Means for the Future of Urban and Regional Transportation is a panel featuring power utilities from New York State and the Province of Quebec to discuss EV’s many benefits.

Thursday, September 22

3 – 5pm The Economics, Environment and Security: It’s All About Positive Energy event explores the positive steps in sustainable development that leading governments are making around the world.

Friday, September 23 – Saturday, September 24

8:30 – 6:30pm  At The Bottom Line on Climate Change, US and EU government officials, geoscientists and leading businesses will discuss how the renewable energy transition will affect the fragile economy.

Saturday, September 24

5 – 9pm  During the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association Annual Meeting, discussion and networking around renewable energy and sustainability in the built environment is the focus.

Monday, September 26

8am – 5pm  Advanced Renewable Energy Project Finance and Analysis is an in-depth course taught by financial and legal experts, who will provide the practical tools to see your project profitably financed.
