Sustainability news goes mainstream on Bloomberg.com

NEW YORK: Bloomberg, a member of The Climate Group, has launched a Sustainability section on Bloomberg.com, which uncovers what big businesses must do to thrive in a climate of growing global competition for resources, efficiency and innovation.

Top business executives heading to Bloomberg.com for the latest news under ‘Markets’ and ‘Personal Finance’ will now see a new heading atop the media giant’s homepage: ‘Sustainability’.

The new Sustainability section is part of Bloomberg News’ ongoing effort to reveal what businesses are doing – and indeed what they must do – to succeed as global competition intensifies for strategic resources.

This dedicated News source is framed as essential for businesses’ future economic growth, as the Bloomberg team claim on their Blog: ‘When speaking to senior executives, many have said that if you don’t have a sustainability plan, you don’t have a business plan.’

Eric Roston, Editor of the new site said: “We feel this is a unique yet critical way to report on sustainability issues - from inside the companies who are defining it. If executives don't commit to making sustainability a vital part of their company, more than just their businesses will suffer. The communities they operate in, customers, and other non-financial players are also impacted by business decisions.”

Amy Davidsen, US Executive Director, The Climate Group, commented on the pivotal new addition to Bloomberg.com: “It’s the latest sign that sustainability is becoming a core issue for businesses. It’s no longer a peripheral issue that companies address just to improve their reputation. Because sustainability affects things like costs, competitiveness and long-term relevance, it’s quickly becoming a key part of mainstream business strategy.  When Bloomberg puts it [sustainability] front and center like that, you know that it matters to businesses.”

As a member of The Climate Group, Bloomberg demonstrates low carbon leadership by addressing issues through its business activities as well as through its own operations. Already boasting aggressive goals to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% below 2007 levels by 2013 through increased energy efficiency, renewable resource use and waste reduction strategies, with the launch of Sustainability, Bloomberg is continuing to tap into its core business (news, data and analytics) to accelerate a broader transition to a Clean Revolution.
