The Climate Group Greater China wins national green NGO Award

BEIJING: The Climate Group Greater China has won the Green Medal Award 2011, an annual award which is part of the Green Love Environmental Series organized by China Business Network, currently China's largest financial media group.

The Award was given on the basis of The Climate Group's 'excellent efforts' on communicating the concept of a low carbon economy, which we are said to have consistently promoted through active national engagements, and which has had a 'great influence' on society.

The 2011 Green Love Environmental Series began as a business-based Awards ceremony and aims to advocate green energy and innovation of environmental industries in wider society.

As one of the most important Awards, the Green Medal Award selected excellent individuals, companies and NGOs that have succeeded in communicating environmental ideas, developing the low carbon economy and helping unlock a greener media perspective.

Impressively, The Climate Group was the only NGO to receive the Award.

With low carbon concepts exposed to the wider public, it is hoped that the Award will encourage technological innovation and trigger the exploration of the balance between economic development and sustainability.

Sub-categories of the Awards include: ‘Environmental Summit’, ‘Green Medal Award’, ‘Environmental Week’, ‘Green China’ and ‘Carbon Club’. Other winners included BASF, China Commings and China Southern Airlines, and HSBC and IBM were among winners of Green Philanthropy Awards.

Changhua Wu, Greater China Director, The Climate Group, attended the awards ceremony held in Pudong Kerry's Hotel, Shanghai, where she gave a speech on China’s development path for the green industry chain, as an expert guest. She also spoke at a panel with BASF and China Southern Airlines.

Upon receiving the Award, Changhua Wu said: "This is one of the most distinguished media awards given to green NGOs in China. It is a great recognition of our hard work in the region. My greatest appreciation goes to all my team members. Let’s keep this level of NGO-leadership up."

Mark Kenber, CEO, The Climate Group said: "This award pays testimony not only to the tremendous efforts of The Climate Group's teams in China and around the world but also to the pioneering work of our members and partners in driving forward the transition to a prosperous low carbon economy. Perhaps, more important still, it is recognition that the Clean Revolution and the transformational change in the way we govern and do business is slowly but surely becoming the driving force in modern economies."
