California Air Resources Board approves AB32 Scoping Plan
- 11 December 2008
On 11 December 2008, California's Air Resources Board has voted to adopt the AB-32 Scoping Plan, a roadmap that describes how the state will reach the goals of AB32, The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. This law mandates that the state reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Included in the adopted plan are an outline for a cap-and-trade program, a 33% renewable portfolio standard, tailpipe emission reduction standards, and other policies that together will help transform and strengthen California's economy.
The plan will be fully implemented by 2012.
The Climate Group played a key facilitating role in AB-32's creation in 2006 by bringing together then-UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to gain support from business and government leaders for the initiative that became AB32.
Since that time, The Climate Group has worked to build a coalition of business, government and local community organizations to ensure that California realizes the full potential of AB-32's vision and reaps the greatest possible economic benefits of its leadership position. In 2008, The Climate Group published The Business Guide To The Low Carbon Economy: California to help businesses save money, reduce emissions and better understand AB-32.
