The Climate Group Appoints Key Executive
- 24 July 2006
Swiss Re Head of Sustainability Business Development, Chris Walker, has accepted an 18-month assignment with The Climate Group to commence and lead the organisation's operations in the Eastern United States.
Beginning August 1st, Mr. Walker will join Nancy Skinner as a US Director for The Climate Group which is dedicated to advancing business and government leadership on climate change. He will be based in New York City.
"Swiss Re is a founding member of The Climate Group and this temporary assignment for Chris provides an opportunity to expand Swiss Re's role and contacts with others involved in the climate change issue," said Ivo Menzinger, Swiss Re Head of Sustainability and Emerging Risks. "In addition, this is an excellent opportunity for Swiss Re to share its expertise with an internationally important organisation dedicated to an issue that is vital to Swiss Re's interests."
Launched by British Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2004, The Climate Group now includes both state governments and diverse businesses that are interested in addressing the issues of climate change.
"Chris Walker has played an important role in Swiss Re's actions on climate change and he will bring a key skill-set to The Climate Group," said Dr. Steve Howard, CEO of The Climate Group. "We are excited about getting him on-board and grateful to Swiss Re for seconding such a strong team member."
During the temporary assignment, Mr. Walker will work with financial companies and other businesses to engage them on climate and related issues. The opportunity will leverage Mr. Walker's experience at Swiss Re in developing greenhouse gas-related activities, which he initiated in 2001 to evaluate the risks and opportunities related to emissions reductions. Mr. Walker joined Swiss Re in 1996.

Notes to editors
The Climate Group is an independent, nonprofit organisation dedicated to advancing business and government leadership on climate change. We are based in the UK, the USA and Australia and we operate internationally.
The organisation was founded in 2004 by a diverse group of companies, governments and supporters who saw the opportunity to create new momentum in the international effort to stop global warming. Proactive companies, states and cities around the world are demonstrating that cuts in greenhouse gases required to stop climate change can be achieved whilst growing the bottom line. Using the work of these leaders as a catalyst, The Climate Group works to accelerate international action on global warming with a new, strong focus on practical solutions.
We promote the development and sharing of expertise on how business and government can lead the way towards a low carbon economy whilst boosting profitability and competitiveness.
The Climate Group represents a new approach. Focused on solutions and positive collaboration across the government, business and non-profit sectors, we act independently of special interests and political affiliations.
The Climate Group is a publicly supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the USA and holds equivalent charitable status in the United Kingdom (registered charity no. 1102909) and Australia (registration pending).
