The Climate Group Australia announcement

The Climate Group Australia announcement

From June 7, 2013, The Climate Group will transfer management of its Australia partnerships to its international offices. As part of this move it will close its two-person Melbourne office.

This decision has been made in the light of the increasingly challenging political environment for action on climate change in Australia, despite the exceptional efforts of our local representatives.

We acknowledge the Government of South Australia for their ongoing support for our work and our goals. As a state particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, South Australia has emerged as a global leader in the development of low carbon, high opportunity initiatives and has set an example that is being followed by many other states and regions around the world.

As co-chair of our International States and Regions Alliance, Premier Weatherill has embodied this leadership and we look forward to continue working with him and his government in the months and years to come. There is no doubt that South Australia provides clear evidence of the low carbon opportunity that is within Australia’s grasp and that can be realized when the right political leadership and policy frameworks are in place.

We are also proud to have worked with a number of climate leader companies and cities in Australia - including Philips, Arup, GE, Sydney and Adelaide - on a range of projects and we are grateful to them for ongoing their leadership and support.

We look forward to continuing work with South Australia and other Australian leaders to advance, inspire and catalyze leadership for a ‘Clean Revolution’: a low carbon future that is smarter, better and more prosperous, for all.
