Green entrepreneurs take their final class at pioneering Future Academy
- 31 July 2014
BEIJING: After months of study, the Future Academy, The Climate Group's green entrepreneurship program, has completed its final class in Shanghai, China.
The final session focused on the work of top Chinese electric vehicle business, the Shenzhou Vehicle Energy Saving and Environmental Protection Company (Shenzhou).
Around 30 of the program's candidates from across China spent the weekend working with Shenzhou's CEO, management team, senior scholars, and steering committee in Shanghai, to get insight on running the leading low carbon company.
The weekend kicked off with a lecture from Jie Chen, CEO of Shenzhou. In his opening address, the sustainability expert introduced the students to the hydraulic hybrid system and efficient vacuum sweeper program which can be inserted into standard vehicles to improve their environmental ratings. Mr. Chen explained first the theoretical grounds for energy-savings, and then supplemented the science with examples of the “real life” working process.
“The hydraulic hybrid system which has been adopted by part of the Shanghai public transportation vehicles has on average increased fuel efficiency by 20% and reduced emissions by 30%”, the CEO elucidated.
Having completed case studies of the Vantone Group, Elion Group, Shanghai Waigaoqiao Power Plant, Broad Group, Xin Ao Concrete Group, and now Shenzhou Vehicle Energy Saving and Environmental Protection Company, the Future Academy has officially completed its 2014 program.
The initiative would not have been possible without the support of the enthusiastic entrepreneurs of the six participating companies, the mentors in the field, and the academics and scholars from Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University.
Changhua WU, founder of the Future Academy and The Climate Group’s Greater China Director, extolled the benefits of the program: “The knowledge which is exchanged during the keynote speeches and the ensuing discussion on the insightful ideas is mutually beneficial for both students and companies.”
The commencement ceremony of 2014 Future Academy will be held in Beijing on September 12 during the Global CleanTech Summit. The CEOs of the six companies will attend the event to present the graduation certificates to the candidates.
