The Future Academy kicks off its 2014 leadership camp in Beijing

Beijing: The Climate Group and its partners officially launched its 2014 Future Academy in Beijing on April 19-20. About 60 youth leaders enrolled in the camp which unites young innovators with mentors from a wide range of sectors, including environmental economics, social entrepreneurship, innovative financing, business models, 'Blue Economy', renewable energy, internet financing and brand building and enhancement.

Over the course of six-weekends, participants will take part in an EMBA modelled study of six Chinese companies - Vantone Group, Broad Group, Elion Resources Group, Xinao Concrete Group, Shanghai Shenzhou Auto Technology Company, and the 3rd Coal-fired Power Plant of Shanghai Waigaoqiao - to asses their respective corporate sustainability and innovation strategies.

The companies have a diverse portfolio of work including real estate, sustainable building, power and energy, hybrid buses, construction waste recycling and reuse, desert-combating-based ecological remediation and urban development.

At the opening ceremony a group of leading experts, which included ZHANG Shiquiu, President of Institute of Economics and Environment, Peking University and KE Bing, Chief Operation Director, NCF Group, shared their expertise and knowledge with the youth leaders. SONG Haixu, Chairwoman of La China Capital, ZHU Dunming, Partner of Tsing Capital, TAO Guangyuan, Executive Director of Sino-German Renewable Energy Centre and WANG Yong, Chairman of the Board, Brand China Industry Union also offered insights.

Changhua Wu, Greater China Director of The Climate Group and the founding President of the Future Academy, noted how important it is to engage with young Chinese entrepreneurs and intellects: “The construction of ecological civilization and sustainable development relies on young people who have global vision, commitment, capacity and capability.”

“The mentorship from business leaders offers aspiration and inspiration, access to leadership, knowledge and information sharing, and an enlarged network for future professional development among the selected youth leaders,” the Director asserted.

An academic steering committee has been set up to guide and design all the case studies. Members of the committee have been selected based on their expert knowledge and include Professor XU Erming of Renmin Unviersity of China, Professor TONG Yunheng of Tsinghua University, Professor ZHANG Shiqiu of Peking University, Director-general JIA Feng, Centre for Environmental Education and Communications, Ministry of Environmental Protection. Changhua Wu will also sit on the steering committee.
