The New Cities Foundation joins China Redesign

The Climate Group is proud to announce a new partnership with the New Cities Foundation, who we will be working together with to drive the Clean Revolution in China’s cities, through our innovative China Redesign program.

The New Cities Foundation is a leading Swiss NGO dedicated to improving the quality of life and work in 21st-century global cities, with a particular focus on new cities in Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Africa.

Most recently the New Cities Foundation has focused on the organization of the inaugural New Cities Summit as well as the first three Task Forces. The NGO leverages its members’ expertise, relationships and solutions for a more socially, economically and environmentally sustainable urban future.

We will work with the New Cities Foundation to accelerate action on clean technology and policy in Chinese cities using our China Redesign program, which was launched in March to help Chinese cities develop and implement low carbon growth strategies and meet the greenhouse gas emissions reduction objectives of China's 12th Five Year Plan.

Mathieu Lefevre, Executive Director, New Cities Foundation says of the collaboration with The Climate Group: "The global stakes for 21st first century urbanization are staggeringly high. By the end of this century, 6 billion people are likely to live in cities worldwide. This poses tremendous challenges, most of all on the potential environmental impact cities could have on the global commons. Achieving the right mix of technology, policy, innovation and finance for cities will largely determine our shared future. Nowhere are these stakes higher than in China. This is why the New Cities Foundation is enthusiastic about its partnership with China Redesign. Our members and ourselves look forward to contributing and learning from this extremely timely initiative."
