Tony Blair, Jiang Zhaoli and business leaders attend China Redesign

BEIJING, March 28 2011: The Climate Group kicked off the new China Redesign program on March 28 in Beijing with the Rt Hon Tony Blair, a key supporter of the program, and Jiang Zhaoli, Director of National Policy & Convention Division, Department of Climate Change, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China. The event saw over 100 guests, including municipal and provincial government officials, a suite of influential business leaders plus over 40 media.

Mark Kenber, CEO, The Climate Group opened the launch event and introduced the program. He addressed that: “The China Redesign program is a global program which will encourage knowledge and experience sharing between south and north. China and India are engines of global economic growth, and in the future the technologies and ideas will shift from west to east. Only with the efforts of being partnered together, could we confront the challenges of the 21st Century.” The Rt Hon Tony Blair and Jiang Zhaoli then preceeded to give keynote speeches, followed by the strategic dialogue address which focused on low carbon city development during China's 12th Five Year Plan, including the challenges, opportunities and solutions.

Regarding the China Redesign program, Tony Blair stated in his keynote: "How to have sustainable growth, and how to be responsible to the environment are the challenges we face nowadays. A practical solution is to establish partnership with business leaders, to find solutions together, and implement them locally. This is what China Redesign is designed for, to change the world through our efforts.”
