LONDON: New climate documentary series Years of Living Dangerously, starring Matt Damon, Arnold Schwarzenegger and a roster of influential celebrities, broadcast journalists and political leaders, premieres globally this weekand you can watch it here first.

The 9-part documentary series sets out to investigate different impacts of climate change around the world, from the political unrest droughts have brought to Syria, to how climate change is affecting everyday Americans.

Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and actors Matt Damon, Jessica Alba and Ian Somerhalder are among the celebrities who travel to different sites throughout the cinematic docu-series in order to present the varying effects of climate change to a new audience.

Matt Damon explains his involvement in the documentary has a personal aspect: "Part of the American ethos is that you want to leave something better for your kids than you had and I know that my parents felt that way and I know that my grandparents felt that way and everybody worked hard so that their kids had a better chance. I just don’t want to be the first generation that doesn’t do that."

Environmentalist and actor Harrison Ford—who opens the first episode dramatically from a fighter jet that NASA is using to measure greenhouse gases—sees the series as a way for him and others to share the urgent need to address runaway climate change with the public. In a statement he says: "People need to see what’s going on, and they have to be exposed to the mechanisms that can help make it right."

Political leaders feature heavily in the series, with Staten Island Representative Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., set to talk about the impact of Superstorm Sandy on his district, and Arnold Schwarzenegger sharing the impact of wildfires in California. He says: "During the time I was in office we have seen the beginning of the elimination of the fire season completely and are having fires all year round. I think we have seen the major problem of the destruction of land and property and lives that is a major problem because we don’t have the resources for that many fires and we don’t have the resources and the manpower to fight those fires throughout the year."

The series has big-name Hollywood producers and directors behind it, with Executive Producers Jerry Weintraub and James Cameron, the latter of whom is best-known for blockbusters Avatar and Titanic.

The Years of Living Dangerously docu-series will officially premiere on Sunday, April 13 at 10PM ET/PT on SHOWTIME®, but you can watch it below.
