- The Netherlands
The Dutch Postcode Lottery has been raising funds since 1989 to support organizations working toward a fairer and greener world. Half of the lottery’s annual turnover goes to charity. The lottery has steadily grown to become the biggest charity lottery in the Netherlands and supports 92 non-governmental organizations. Since its founding, the lottery has dispensed over €4.4 billion (US$5 billion) to its beneficiaries.
The Dutch Postcode Lottery has been a partner and supporter of The Climate Group for over seven years, working together with us on our annual Climate Week NYC for instance, and thanks to their donations they help making our work possible.
Principal funder for Bijli project
The Dutch Postcode Lottery is also the principal funder for our project Bijli – Clean Energy for all. Thanks to the important funding for this project we received from the lottery two years ago, the initiative has now helped more than 30,000 people in rural areas of India to dramatically enhance their life through being connected to clean energy, with another 20,000 to be reached by the end of 2015.
With 40% of India not connected to the power grid – which is also very unreliable – the Bijli project aims to provide clean and cheap renewable and solar-powered energy, instead of very dangerous kerosene and diesel lamps.
Annual grant of €900,000
On January 26 2015, The Climate Group was awarded a grant of €900,000 (US$1,020,000) by the Dutch Postcode Lottery. The important donation was presented to our CEO, Mark Kenber, during the annual Dutch Postcode Lottery Charity Gala (Goed Geld Gala) in Amsterdam.
