Andrew Smith is a chartered accountant and a former partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked for 35 years until retiring in 2009. While at PwC he was successively audit partner for a number of banks, led the firm’s Banking and Capital Markets Assurance practice, had a senior HR role as head of Partner Affairs and led the firm’s Sustainability & Climate Change consulting practice.
In his last few years at PwC he transformed the firm’s partner development activities, to include an innovative, forward thinking programme addressing emerging global trends such as climate change. This formed the basis for building partner support for investing in the development of PwC’s advisory capabilities in sustainability and climate change. He had a particular focus on the scope for concentrating solar power as a key, underexploited source of renewable energy.
He is a graduate in economics from Cambridge University. He is trustee to a number of charities including the Duke of Edinburgh’s UK and International Awards. He lives in Penrith, Cumbria and is married with two sons and two daughters.
