UPCOMING EVENTS AND WEBINARS:
Catalysing Corporate Ambition on Product Efficiency: Building Momentum on the Road to COP26 | Thursday, 30th September - 1:00 to 2:15pm GMT
“We cannot win the race to net-zero emissions without improving the energy efficiency of products like air conditioners, refrigerators, lighting, and electric motors” - Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
In this webinar, you will hear from the UK Government’s Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on the freshly launched 2021 Product Efficiency Call to Action and how ambitious corporates, seeking to position themselves at the forefront of energy and product efficiency climate action, can get involved. How?
- By joining the Climate Group’s EP100 initiative; and,
- By endorsing the 2021 Product Efficiency Call to Action at COP 26.
You will particularly benefit from this event if you work in a multi-national corporation as a:
- Sustainability executive;
- Head / Director of sustainability, ESG, responsible business, strategy, corporate affairs or similar; or
- Other sustainability decision maker for your organization.
To achieve net-zero by 2050 sustainably, leading assessments demonstrate the essential need for energy efficiency improvements. In the IEA’s Sustainable Development Scenario to 1.5-2°C, energy efficiency accounts for approximately half of all emissions abatement to 2030 (more than renewables and other measures).
Product efficiency has a particularly important role to play. Just four products (air conditioners, electric motors, refrigerators and lighting) account for 40% of global electricity consumption. By doubling their efficiency, we can cut electricity demand by 30,000 TWh between 2022 and 2030, the equivalent generation of 1,500 coal-fired power plants, and avoid 13 Gt of CO2 emissions.
The UK Government and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy have partnered with the Super Efficient Equipment and Appliances Deployment Initiative (SEAD), IEA and CLASP to launch the 2021 Product Efficiency Call to Action. By signing the Call to Action countries are agreeing to drive international action consistent with a goal of doubling the efficiency of the four priority products by 2030.
Simultaneously, the Climate Group’s EP100 initiative is working with the UK Government to build a global coalition of private sector companies advancing ambitious energy / product efficiency improvements and endorsing the Product Efficiency Call to Action at COP 26.
We therefore invite you to join EP100! As part of an ongoing membership, EP100 members benefit from extensive company profiling, peer networking, policy advocacy opportunities, access to thought-leadership events and publications, and more.
