Transport

Accelerating the transition to zero-emission transport.

Overview

The transport sector is a significant contributor to climate change, accounting for around a quarter of global energy-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Electric transport offers a major solution in cutting millions of tons of GHG emissions per year, as well as curbing transport-related air and noise pollution.

We're now at the stage where the market is ready for mass roll-out. Working with leaders from businesses and governments, the Climate Group is creating powerful coalitions that accelerate the speed and scale of this transition. Together, we generate powerful demand signals for market acceleration, and push for ambitious policy leadership at all government levels.

What we do on transport

EV100

Corporate leadership on electric transport

EV100 is the Climate Group's global initiative bringing together companies committed to accelerating the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and making electric transport the new normal by 2030.

EV100 members are increasing demand for EVs, influencing policy, and driving mass roll-out - helping to make EVs more rapidly affordable for everyone.

EV100+

EV100+ is designed to create a strong corporate demand signal to help unlock a revolution in zero-emission medium and heavy-duty trucking. The global initiative will make zero-emission trucking the new normal by 2040. EV100+ members are leading the way to shape the market, drive supply from manufacturers and support governments in implementing policy frameworks that ensure adoption is at the speed and scale required.

ZEV Community

Best practice exchange between sub-national governments

The ZEV Community brings together all levels of governments to share best practice and learn about exciting ZEV (zero emission vehicle) initiatives taking place around the world.

The ZEV Community is co-hosted by the Under2 Coalition and the ZEV Alliance, in partnership with C40 Cities and the U.S. Climate Alliance.

Accelerating to Zero Coalition

Building global momentum for the ZEV transition

At COP26, following the successful RouteZero initiative, the Zero Emissions Vehicle Declaration launched by the UK COP26 Presidency was launched by a leadership group of more than 100 countries, businesses, and organizations committed to driving forward a transition to a climate-neutral transportation sector. Signatories to the Declaration signed up to the global pledge to ensure that all new car and van sales be zero emission by 2040 globally, and by 2035 in leading markets. Since then, momentum has only increased. This partnership between the United Kingdom, Climate Group, the Climate Champions, the International Council on Clean Transportation, and the Drive Electric Campaign will build on the effort that was launched at COP26.

ZEV Pledge for public fleets

Driving the shift to zero emission public fleets

The ZEV Pledge for public fleets brings together governments at all levels, as well as individual departments, agencies and public sector bodies, to pledge to convert their entire owned or leased fleets to zero emission vehicles.

Policy engagement

Increasing policy ambition on electromobility

We're working with partners and companies to call for the policies required to accelerate the shift to zero-emission vehicles.

Our ongoing work includes activity in the EU, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan and the US.
