In 2015, almost a quarter of global electricity came from renewables

Despite lower fossil fuel prices, renewable power expanded at its fastest-ever rate in 2015, thanks to supportive government policies and sharp cost reductions, IEA states.

In the same year, about 147 gigawatts of renewable electricity came online - the largest annual increase ever and as much as Africa’s entire power generating capacity.
