Confirmed: Climate deal decision-makers speaking at major NYC event

NEW YORK CITY: Some of the key global figures who will determine the outcome of December’s international climate negotiations are coming together for the first time at a major event organized by The Climate Group as part of Climate Week NYC 2015.

The US Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern will be joined by Prakash Javadekar, India’s Environment Minister. A number of business leaders at the Signature Event will call on governments to reach a climate deal which gives opportunities to their companies and supply chains.

Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be joined by leaders of major state and regional governments who announced earlier this week they are setting carbon reduction targets equivalent to the US’ annual emissions and will set out their plans to build low carbon economies.

Angel Gurria, Secretary General of the OECD, World Bank President Jim Kim, Felipe Calderón, former President of Mexico and now Chair of New Climate Economy, and the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Christiana Figures will be joined by senior executives from major companies including: Walmart, Procter & Gamble, Nike, Goldman Sachs, Siemens, Philips, IKEA, Kellogg, BT, GEF, DSM, ENGIE, SkyPower. Many of these companies announced during Climate Week NYC, major plans to start using renewable energy and adopt business plans based on climate science as part of their contribution to tackling climate change. 

Other confirmed speakers include Lord Greg Barker, former UK Energy Minister, and Adnan Amin, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency. Further confirmations will be announced on the morning of the event.
