NEW YORK: With exactly one month to go until the start of Climate Week NYC, the international event that gathers business and government leaders together to continue the transition toward net zero emissions, 30 events are now confirmed to take place across the city.

The Climate Group will convene the annual Climate Week NYC from September 19-25, bringing together hundreds of delegates from around the world for business and government panel discussions, workshops, academic seminars, exhibitions and artistic productions, covering the key themes of the climate change agenda.

With the historic Paris Agreement reached in December, and a pivotal US election on the horizon, this year’s Opening Ceremony, America Means Business: US Leadership in a post-Paris World, will focus on topics including climate leadership in the 21st century, technology and innovation, as well as the clean energy transition.

Amy Davidsen, US Executive Director, The Climate Group, said: “This year’s edition of Climate Week NYC takes place at a critical moment. The historic Paris Agreement is on the cusp of ratification, and with the U.S. election following in only 8 weeks, it is essential that the momentum for climate action continues and accelerates.

"North American businesses, investors, states, regions and cities have demonstrated strong leadership in the transition to a clean energy, low carbon economy for a number of years. At Climate Week NYC we will see a great showcase of these actions, which the next administration will have the opportunity to build on to lead the country towards a cleaner, healthier, more prosperous future.”

With renewable energy setting new records across the world, The Climate Group will demonstrate the critical role of corporate campaigns in the changing global energy landscape by hosting a joint RE100 and EP100 event to showcase these two high-impact initiatives.

A diverse range of Climate Week NYC affiliate events will take place throughout the week, looking at the next steps of climate leadership from states, regions, and cities, as well as businesses and investors, continues to be scaled up.

A series of business and investor-focused events will assess the latest developments in climate finance, from the role of social investors and philanthropy in scaling up new business solutions, to the growth of the green bonds market.

Climate Week NYC 2016 will take place alongside the first meeting of the UN General Assembly since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in December, and the Private Sector Forum, hosted in the context of the United Nations High-Level Summit on Large Scale Movements of Refugees and Migrants. Taking place on September 20-22, the Forum will focus on the role of the private sector in bringing forward the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
