NEW YORK: See a gallery of last week's high-profile Climate Week NYC 2014 Opening Day, which hosted global leaders including US Secretary of State John Kerry, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim, and Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC Christiana Figueres.

The event, which was co-convened by The Climate Group and CDP, saw Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, Sir Richard Branson, Founder of the Virgin Group, Peter Agnefjäll, CEO, IKEA, and many more executives from top companies including BT, HP, Lockheed Martin, Swiss Re and Unilever join the stage to share their visions for a vibrant, low carbon economy.

New commitments were made: we unveiled We Mean Business, an unprecedented collaboration between business groups working with the world’s most influential companies to drive climate action; we launched RE100, a campaign that encourages and helps businesses to commit to 100% renewable power; and we announced a new Compact of States and Regions to help tackle climate change at the sub-national government level.

Created in 2009 by The Climate Group, Climate Week NYC - which was marked by the Empire State Building's LEDs lighting green - this year boasted more than 146 events across New York, as the collaborative space in support of the UN Climate Summit
