As one of the major emitting regions of the world, North America plays a critical role in guiding – and capturing – the immense opportunities of a net zero emissions future.
In particular, US capacity for innovation in technology, finance and business is unrivalled. The nation will be key in shaping the clean energy revolution, as it has shaped every industrial revolution of the last 100 years.
Business and sub-national government leadership is now recognized as essential to keeping the rise in global temperature well below 2 degrees Celsius – and North America serves as a leading source of innovative sub-national policies as well as influential corporate action.
For over a decade, The Climate Group has worked in North America to inspire such leaders to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy. Our office is located in New York City and we work in collaboration with our global offices to create a cleaner, healthier and more prosperous future.
Our priority business campaigns and projects include RE100, EP100, LED Scale-up and Home2025, as well as our States & Regions program, where sub-national governments are setting bold greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, reporting on progress and demonstrating how low carbon policies create opportunity for economic growth by increasing clean energy investment and jobs.
Each year, to keep increasing ambition and showcasing success, we also host Climate Week NYC, which we founded in 2009. The week-long summit is one of the most important moments on the international climate and media calendar for governments, investors, businesses, innovators and opinion formers. With over 100 affiliate events each year, Climate Week NYC unifies diverse voices for urgent climate action and clean energy solutions.
