November 23, 2020 – Today, President-elect Joe Biden named John Kerry as the Presidential Special Envoy for Climate and to serve on the National Security Council.  John Kerry served as the Secretary of State for the Obama administration and signed the Paris Climate Agreement on behalf of the US with his granddaughter seated on his lap.

Amy Davidsen, Executive Director of North America at the Climate Group, said: “Former Secretary of State, John Kerry, will make an excellent Climate Envoy for the United States. He’s a longstanding public servant and climate champion and has been unwavering in his commitment to immediate action, speaking at the first Climate Week NYC in 2009, and again in 2014 and 2019, to demonstrate his passion for protecting our climate and getting to net zero emissions no later than 2050.

Through his initiative, World War Zero and his active leadership, Mr. Kerry is the climate leader needed to get the U.S. back on track immediately to tackle the climate crisis.”
