We were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Aristóteles Sandoval in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, last week.
As former Governor of Jalisco, and co-chair of the Under2 Coalition, we worked with him closely on a range of issues around climate change and environmental protection in Mexico and beyond. This was a role he took seriously, and where he was particularly passionate about developing low carbon transport and clean energy systems to reduce emissions. His support for subnational action on climate was invaluable and he played a key role in building momentum for action within South American states.
All of us at the Climate Group and in the Under2 Coalition are thinking of Mr Sandoval’s family and friends, and the people of Jalisco, at this difficult time.
