Climate Week NYC 2014: How to participate

22 August 2014

NEW YORK: Running from September 22-28, the 6th annual Climate Week NYC promises to be the biggest in history. This year it will coincide with the UN Climate Summit, and is certain to play a crucial role in placing climate change at the top of the global agenda, ahead of the UN climate talks in Paris in 2015.

On Monday September 22, the Opening Day of Climate Week NYC will unite world leaders from business and government with top faith, military, agriculture and health representatives at the Morgan Library and Museum, New York City. They are expected to lay out their shared vision for a vibrant low carbon economy and to announce a number of major new initiatives to drive climate action.

This sets the stage for the more than 80 high profile events that are planned to take place in New York City, ranging from conferences, lectures and debates, to concerts, community projects and art exhibitions. This is a huge international climate effort with a clear aim; to drive climate action.

Attend Climate Week NYC Events

Climate Week NYC provides a unique opportunity for the people of New York to hear from influential climate leaders at a number of open events. From the VERGE Salon which will demonstrate innovative low carbon technologies in cities, to the Religions for the Earth conference which acts as a platform for religious collaborative action against climate change, there is a huge variety of events to participate in this September.

A range of artistic events will also be running to showcase the world’s natural beauty, while projecting a clear message; its vulnerability and need for protection. This year, Climate Week NYC coincides with the launch of Sebastiao Salgado’s world renowned Genesis exhibition, with over 200 photographs to raise awareness of the environmental impact of climate change. Similarly, for those interested in polar regions, Chasing Ice, the multi award-winning documentary on the depletion of the world’s glaciers, will be shown in a one-off screening on September 24.

In addition, the People’s Climate March offers New Yorkers the opportunity to be part of a powerful record-breaking international movement, calling for global warming mitigation. With public focus on New York this September, and with unprecedented climate mobilisation expected, this event will highlight the need to act on climate change now with bold solutions, prior to the UN Climate Summit. To participate outside of NYC, the People’s Climate Train will run prior to the event.
