Dr Jim Yong Kim joins the line-up for Climate Week NYC Opening Ceremony

4 September 2013

NEW YORK: Climate Week NYC, the global summit on building a strong, low carbon economy, kicks off with two major events in New York City on Monday, September 23.

With the IPCC 5th Assessment Report due to be published this week, and expected to show virtually unanimous scientific consensus on climate change, a coalition of political and corporate leaders and public figures will call on governments and businesses to move from debating the science to delivering action. These leaders include:

  • Dr Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank;
  • CEOs and board members from top international corporates including Swiss Re, HP, Philips, IKEA and SolarCity;
  • Bob Inglis, Executive Director of the Energy and Enterprise Initiative and former Congressman;
  • And more top US and international names to be announced.

Following the Opening Ceremony will be the high-level event, Rethinking Resiliency: One year after Sandy. Climate Week NYC Founding Sponsor, Swiss Re, hosts this session, which will explore whether we need to rethink how to build a climate resilient society and, if not, what we can do to minimize the impacts of severe weather. The session will tap into the thoughts of policy and business leaders to identify solutions to key challenges facing climate-vulnerable societies today.
