50 Shades of Green: Electrification and energy efficiency at London Climate Action Week

Written by Climate Group | Jul 7, 2026 3:43:10 PM

Welcome to a special edition of Climate Group's 50 Shades of Green podcast, filmed at London Climate Action Week 2026.

Introduced by Mike Umiker, Managing Director of Energy Efficiency Movement, Climate Group's Mike Peirce hosts an expert panel featuring Erika Gupta of Siemens Financial Services, Ana Troncoso of ABB, Emma Harvey-Smith of Green Finance Institute and Chris Skidmore of Climate Action Coalition; formerly the UK's Energy and Clean Growth Minister.

Together, they interrogate why, despite clear economics and existing technologies, energy efficiency remains underfunded and fragmented. Discussion topics include the critical role of efficiency as “the first fuel,” the challenges of scaling retrofit projects, and innovative financing models like energy efficiency as a service and retrofit-as-a-service.

The conversation also focuses on cooling: rising air-conditioning demand, public health impacts of extreme heat, and the uncomfortable tradeoffs between keeping people safe and avoiding runaway electricity demand.
