*This interview is part of our Climate Group employee interview series where we ask people to share their experience of working at Climate Group and what a regular day looks like in their role.

Why Climate Group?

I’ve worked in international development for most of my career, on development agendas, welfare issues and humanitarian aid. Over that time, it became clear that climate change increasingly affects everyone. Climate Group’s meaningful work in India was a great chance to align myself with this pressing need. Where else can you get the opportunity to help shift entire systems?

Through Climate Group’s networks, I’ve also been able to understand the sustainability and communications strategies of businesses, which has given me invaluable insight into a world I didn’t previously have access to.

What does a regular day look like for you as a Senior Communications Manager?

I lead strategic communications in India. No two days look alike, and I really enjoy that. Drawing on our communications and organisational goals, I ideate, strategise, plan and implement. I need to grasp complex, technical topics, such as industrial decarbonisation, renewable energy, food systems and sustainable mobility, to create compelling public communications. This helps me guide my team too.

I work with communicators in other Climate Group offices on how best to set the agenda for decision-makers and opinion shapers in India and Asia, including business executives, public officials, journalists and development practitioners.

I also advise Climate Group’s leadership on communications where relevant.

What do you enjoy most about working at Climate Group?

There’s never a dull day! I’ve been able to problem-solve and learn many new things. My understanding of climate action has grown exponentially, and there’s a strong practical element to my role too.

I’ve seen myself as an organisation builder for many years, and I’ve been given opportunities to contribute to Climate Group’s growth. For example, I’m currently developing programmatic pathways for stronger climate communications in India.

The culture is enabling and colleagues are friendly and approachable, which makes all of this easier.

Who or what inspires you in your work?

Contributing to a larger cause has always been a driving force.

How do you stay motivated to keep driving climate action, fast?

Combining purpose with my skill set is what keeps me going. Every time we shift the needle on climate action, it fuels me.
