ConcreteZero membership: Frequently asked questions

Our primary focus is demand side - working to create the market signal to the concrete industry that there is urgent need for low-carbon concrete. Generally we don't work directly with cement and concrete producers, however ConcreteZero promotes engagement through our member's supply chain, as well as broader collaboration with associations like the NRMCA. Our technical workstream advisory support is represented by The Concrete Centre (MPA).

The baseline reporting requirements are outlined in the ConcreteZero commitment framework. Guidelines for reporting are being developed currently in accordance with members, and will be released in due time. 

As more data becomes available through ConcreteZero reporting and collection through the CMAR tool, discussions across membership and with key stakeholders will establish if, how, and when the threshold should change. Continuous input of new market data will ensure that the benchmarks stand against up-to-date market values. Additionally, as we capture the best practice for innovative solutions and cement and concrete becomes more sustainable, we will be able to assess as a group what this means for the ConcreteZero threshold.

ConcreteZero members, as leaders in concrete decarbonisation, will be able to directly determine what changes to the threshold should look like. For implementation of changes, consensus will need to be gained throughout the membership base.

Climate Group will be treating all data anonymously, which means that the data collated will be pooled with other direct sources and aggregated, so that no company names are associated with the information. The data will be split between geographical areas such as City or County. The data only needs to be verified through the CMAR Tool, it will then be verified by ConcreteZero in terms of embodied carbon consumption in relation to the declared concrete volume and strength classification.

Standard fees are $8,000, however organisations with less than $500m annual revenue are eligible for reduced membership fees of $3,000. Our finance team will be in touch each year with information on how our payment cycle works
