The environmental justice and technology communities can accelerate and transform climate action together. Thanks to the groundbreaking work of environmental justice leaders, there is a sea change in climate action underway in the U.S., with the requirement for prioritized investment in overburdened communities. Access to clean air is a human right and ensuring that right for all will require new and innovative approaches. Technology and data are critical tools. But in order for technology to meet its potential, meaningful community partnerships are required. Environmental justice leaders have been creating innovative solutions for decades. Now, technology providers have the opportunity to partner with communities to create “Earthshot” innovation that solves the most important issues on our planet: climate change, public health, economic opportunity, and social justice.
This panel will examine the roles technology and data can play in supporting climate action and environmental justice; consider the key elements of cooperative innovation; and include discourse around how governments and technology providers can better support innovation for and with the communities they serve.
