Why responsibility matters

As Renewable Energy (RE) procurement complexity rises, embedding responsibility is central to managing risks and protecting ESG credibility.

RE buyers can no longer be only passive consumers of clean power, but rather active market shapers influencing how projects are developed.

The Toolkit

Developed under the Responsible Energy Initiative (REI), this toolkit supports buyers in defining and operationalising responsible procurement.

By adopting responsibility in procurement decision-making, buyers can integrate pathways to navigate social and environmental risks and build long-term energy resilience.

The toolkit defines four levels of buyer ambition and provides a structured, practical approach.

The toolkit combines three practical components
