Information Integrity
Getting ambitious climate policy over the line doesn’t just depend on finance, technology and political leadership. It’s just as important to base decisions on facts – but that can be challenging when conversations are influenced by AI, algorithms and coordinated misinformation campaigns.
States and regions are increasingly delivering their climate goals against a constant flow of mistrust and polarisation, which sows confusion and undermines public confidence. At the same time, governments need to translate complex issues into a language that is easily understood and responds to legitimate concerns, to keep the support of their communities.
Misleading information delays climate action, it weakens support for clean-energy policies, and puts communities at a higher risk during heatwaves, flooding, storms and droughts
The Under2 Coalition is strengthening the position of states and regions in this fast-changing information landscape – particularly helping them to anticipate information risks, build strong relationships with key partners and communities, and maintain the trust of the public.
From dialogue to action
This work began with a closed-door strategic communications roundtable in Rio de Janeiro, where Under2 Coalition members identified the need for more human-centred climate narratives, trusted messengers and proactive communications strategies.
During London Climate Action Week, Under2 Coalition expanded the conversation through its first public event dedicated to climate misinformation and disinformation. Governments and experts explored the changing global information landscape, the role of AI and advertising, the decline of specialist climate journalism and practical approaches to building trust.
The next phase will focus on government ownership and implementation. Through further dialogue, research and pilot activity, we will work with states and regions to test approaches that strengthen information resilience around climate and energy policy.
You can watch the conversation in London below.
