Future Fund Progress Report 2017
Future Fund — Climate Group
About the Future Fund
The Climate Group, with founding contributions from the governments of Alberta, Ontario, Québec, Scotland, South Australia and Wales, launched the States & Regions Future Fund in 2017 to support sub-national governments in developing regions to accelerate climate action.
Empowering these regions is critical: many face significant barriers to financing and implementing climate strategies, despite having a clear stake in the global response to climate change.
The 2017 progress report sets out the early activity of the Future Fund — including its objectives, governance, and the first round of secondment projects that delivered peer-to-peer learning between member regions.
Highlights from 2017
- Initial founding contributions secured from six leading state and regional governments.
- First secondment projects scoped, focused on developing and emerging economy regions.
- Foundations laid for an ongoing programme of capacity-building between Under2 Coalition members.
