Under2 Coalition 2018 highlights report

Report 23 January 2019, 13:46 UTC

2018 was a fantastic year for the Under2 Coalition. Our General Assembly held during the Global Climate Action Summit, was the biggest we have held to date and signalled the strength and vibrancy of the coalition worldwide. Today, the Under2 Coalition has more than 220 members and represents over 1.3 billion people and 43% of the global economy.

This Highlights Report summarizes the coalition’s achievements in 2018 and the work of the Secretariat team at The Climate Group, as well as providing a glimpse of the challenges and opportunities on the road ahead of us.

Key highlights include:

  • As reported by The Economist, the Under2 Coalition was recognized as the international collaborative initiative with the highest potential for emissions reduction.
  • Commitment to climate transparency; 78 Under2 Coalition governments disclosed their climate action and targets in the Global States and Regions Annual Disclosure.
  • We secured funding for three major new projects to support coalition members to drive their commitments into action.
  • We welcomed 17 new members to the coalition bringing total members to more than 220.
  • We accelerated climate action by sharing policy learning through the Under2 Zero Emission Vehicle Project, the Policy Action Map and the Carbon-Free Regions Handbook.
