18 secondments delivered over the past five years, involving 31 Under2 Coalition members.
Here are the highlights:
2017 - 2018: Gujarat with South Australia
In 2017, officials from Gujarat visited South Australia to learn about innovative low carbon technologies in the state. This included: carbon neutral city planning, energy storage infrastructure, low carbon transportation and 2050 roadmap development.
Following their experience in South Australia, Gujarat is now considering carbon neutral city planning, and looking to transfer technologies in the water and climate change adaptation sectors.
2018 - 2019: KwaZulu-Natal with Victoria
Officials from KwaZulu-Natal visited Victoria in 2019 for a four-day peer learning secondment on Victoria’s ‘Boosting Business Productivity’ programme. This initiative helps businesses to cut energy and material costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy productivity. It does this by providing access to expert advice and support.
KwaZulu-Natal officials are now equipped with the knowledge to implement similar programmes in their province. The secondment revealed that the success of these programmes depends on there being strong partnerships, cooperation, policy legislation and accountability between the province’s government, private sector and communities.
2020 - 2021: Western Cape with Climate Group
In 2020, the Future Fund enabled Western Cape to access technical experts from the Climate Group to develop its 2050 Emissions Pathway.
Six online workshops were led by staff members from Climate Group’s Climate Pathway Project. They provided support on pathway vision development, stakeholder mapping and pathway expertise for a sustainable, just and equitable future for the province.
2021 - 2022: Jammu & Kashmir with California
In 2022, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir will learn about water management and rice production from experts at the California Department of Food and Agriculture. Two virtual exchanges will take place to cover both topics.
