March 31, 2021 - Today President Biden announced details for the American Jobs Plan to reinvigorate the economy and put millions of Americans back to work. This exciting announcement allocates $35 billion for clean tech R&D to address the climate crisis, $85 billion to modernize public transit systems, and $174 billion to promote electric vehicles through consumer incentives, supply chain support, charging network build outs, school bus electrification, and electrifying the federal fleet.

Amy Davidsen, Executive Director, North America of international non-profit, the Climate Group, says:

“President Biden’s announcement unveils his much-anticipated American Jobs Plan. As one of the largest infrastructure plans in American history, the President’s plan promises to drive economic recovery and fight climate change.

The American Jobs Plan will create millions of good-paying jobs, rebuild our country’s infrastructure, and position the United States to reestablish itself as a global leader. This investment will include communities of color and rural communities who have been historically left behind in order to truly achieve a clean energy economy. With transportation as the largest source of emissions in the US, we’re heartened by the significant investment promised to drive the electric vehicle transition.

The President’s decision to fulfill one of his biggest campaign commitments to act swiftly and decisively on the climate crisis and build back greener for all, comes at a critical time for the country and the world. The American Jobs Plan will be an essential element to halve emissions by 2030 and US action on climate cannot be understated. This plan is an encouraging step towards creating a cleaner, more equitable future for all.”

The transport sector is the fastest-growing contributor to climate change, accounting for a quarter (23%) of global emissions. Electric transport offers a major solution in cutting millions of tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year, as well as curbing transport related air and noise pollution. EV100, our global initiative on transport, brings together companies committed to making electric transport the new normal by 2030. Through this initiative, electric vehicles remain a priority for the country to achieve overall ambitious emission reduction targets. This is the moment to reimagine and rebuild a new American economy and this plan helps to deliver on a reinvigorated, clean economy.
