Queensland’s biggest zinc refinery joins RE100

Sun Metals, the operator of Queensland’s biggest zinc refinery – the second largest single site consumer of electricity in the Australian state – has joined RE100 with a commitment to use 100% renewable electricity by 2040. Having already invested in solar power, the company will now acquire wind assets in Queensland, showing that heavy industry sees a clean energy future in Australia. “The argument that Australian industry needs more gas is simply wrong,” said former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
