Climate Group welcomes Angela Barranco as new Executive Director for North America

February 22, 2022 – New York, NY – Climate Group, leading international nonprofit, announced today that Angela Barranco has been named as Executive Director for North America. Angela will begin as the new Executive Director on February 28, 2022. 

Angela brings over two decades of experience, including several years of campaign management across the US and leadership in problem-solving, solutions-focused work on clean energy, clean cars and protecting national monuments, most recently as Undersecretary of the California Natural Resources Agency. Prior to that, Angela served as Chief Executive for River LA, Deputy Chief of Staff at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Associate Director for Public Engagement on the White House Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ).

Climate Group also announced that Mary D. Nichols, former Chair of the California Air Resources Board and leader of the state’s climate action plan, has joined the organization's North American board with a wealth of experience, most notably as Chair of California Air Resources Board (CARB) and secretary of the California Natural Resources Agency. 

“I welcome the opportunity to bring my decades of experience in implementing positive, job-friendly climate solutions to the national level at a time when the urgency has become apparent to states and cities throughout North America," said Mary Nichols, North America Board Member, Climate Group. 

Angela’s diverse experience will enable her to drive progress across Climate Group operations. Climate Group leads a variety of global initiatives including RE100, EV100 and EP100 to drive the clean energy transition and is the Secretariat to the Under2 Coalition. Climate Group also hosts the largest annual climate week in the world, Climate Week NYC. Earlier this month, Climate Group announced they will be hosting the US Climate Action Summit on April 21 in Washington, DC. The summit will bring together federal and state leaders alongside businesses and climate experts to explore the next steps for climate action in the US and how to maximize opportunities from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Climate Group has led on driving ambition and impact in North America and welcomes Angela to help accelerate action.
